Placing a crown or bridge supported by dental implants, rather than relying on the adjacent natural teeth, offers the significant advantage of preserving healthy tooth structure, as no grinding of neighbouring teeth is required.
Additionally, in cases where there are no natural teeth in the posterior area of the mouth, implant-supported crowns or bridges are the most recommended prosthetic solution, compared to removable dentures or large bridges with cantilevered (“hanging”) teeth.
The Procedure
After the dental implants are placed and the osseointegration period (integration of the implant with the bone) is completed, a dental impression is taken at the clinic. The dental laboratory then fabricates the implant-supported prosthetic restoration.
Once the restoration is ready, a final clinical check is performed to assess fit, function and aesthetics, and to make any necessary adjustments. The implant-supported crown or bridge is then delivered and securely placed, restoring both function and appearance for the patient.
