Sealants involve the coating of teeth and fissures as part of preventive dentistry and are particularly recommended for children and adolescents.
They are a simple, painless, and safe method used to seal the deep grooves and fissures on the chewing surfaces of posterior teeth, which are the most vulnerable areas for the development of dental caries. Since the diameter of toothbrush bristles is usually larger than the diameter of the grooves and fissures of back teeth, brushing alone is often insufficient to thoroughly clean these areas. By applying special sealant materials, the pits and fissures are sealed, become shallower, and can therefore be cleaned more easily.
The application is performed without anesthesia, without any discomfort, and in a single appointment. The teeth become smoother and shinier, allowing for more effective and easier cleaning with a toothbrush.
